Mimamsa Diary is a collection of visual essays on memorable architecture. It is a wonderful introduction to the world of architecture, engineering and construction for an aspiring high school student. It will also make a great travel companion. What makes architecture memorable? Why do some buildings leave a lasting impression? The author reflects on these questions in Mimamsa Diary as he takes a panoramic tour of 26 architectural destinations around the globe. The destinations include contemporary, historical as well as vernacular architecture. The panoramic tour takes you from the Buddhist temple at Borobudur in Indonesia to the River Building at Grace Farms in New Canaan, Connecticut with noteworthy projects in Thailand, Singapore, China, India, Egypt, Hungary, Denmark, United States and Mexico along the way. These essays are not about the history of architecture as it is traditionally taught in architecture schools. They are neither chronological in order nor point to a particular theory of architecture. They are simply reflections on places that have fascinated the author and have triggered a deeper search for meaning. Mimamsa is a Sanskrit word which means "reflection, consideration, profound thought, investigation, examination, discussion" according to a Wikipedia page on Mīmāṃsā. The author is an architect and has taught architecture in the Unites States and Mexico. He is currently teaching as an adjunct professor at Fordham University's Real Estate Institute in Manhattan. He holds master's degrees in architecture from MIT, Cambridge MA and Business Management from CUNY, New York NY.
