Now being developed into a TV series, with a most unusual parallel subplot. The story is full of true life experiences, victories and defeats, romance, comedy and drama. We follow bi-racial Milton as he grows up in Oskaloosa Iowa, and while he has made progress in his life, and can point to certain accomplishments, he knows something large is missing and has been left unanswered, and one day, something goes "snap" and he heads west to find his new life, find some meaning in it, and in that process, attempts to find himself. Since few trails are straight, Milton soon encounters a wide array of wonderful and sometimes bizarre people who lead him down various branches of his trail, all of which seem to enhance his understanding of the emotional tornado he seems to always live within. At every step, Milton shares with us his homespun philosophies. Milton is eminently likable, but confused and although an Everyman, is imperfect in so many ways. The book is full of romance, drama, comedy, and is packed with many dozens of colorful characters. In this fourth version of the book, certain typographical chores were performed, and some aesthetic choices made, but beyond this, it is the original first edition book.
