Definitely a book for YA to enjoy.

As someone who's taken a few poetry classes about Spanish poetry and English poetry. It's safe to say this book is not groundbreaking poetry. It's a deep insight into the poets life and her feelings though. I believe this is her first work. And for it to be her first book it is pretty good. Again, I can't say it was very marvelous to read, nor that my life was utterly changed by reading it. I read it in one sitting and that is something hard for me to do. Meaning this book is easily consumed, felt and read. Still, give it a try if you do not like poetry. If you are picky with poetry, skip it entirely. Definitely ignore it if you have studied poetry, as it is not a prime example of what free verse poetry can achieve. In cruel words it is cliche and over used words all mumbled up together attempting to bring out some sort of dramatic reaction. The style and how it all looks is sadly very "Instagram" post worthy. It's really just commercially aesthetic dribble. And that's not a bad thing. But it doesn't feel as deep as it could have been. It feels more like a book to have for aesthetic purposes rather than for its poetic value. Again, this book is perfect for: light readers or people who struggle to read in general or are overwhelmed by pages full of words; wanting to look interesting in public, as well good for taking pictures with and insistently suggesting it on TikTok in book recommendations. It is definitely not a book I would go out with or be seen with. I'll probably lend it to a few friends so they don't have to buy it. Again, it wasn't that bad, I'll probably re-read it again simply because I already own it and I am not one to let books go to waste. In lighter news there were a few poems that made me smile. Though there are many poems I would take out because they don't really add to the feeling. Some poems even ruined the mood of previous poems even in the same sections. Read a good poem, pass the page and it's a: "Huh? Uh. Okay? Whatever." kind of poem. I know I've become redundant at this point. Forgive me. Don't read it with an intelectual view point. Turn that off. Turn off your brain, forget everything you know about poetry and just let yourself feel her words. You may actually enjoy it! Give it a try, you only live once. And if you hated it or feel indifferent about it as I, either resell it or lend it. Either way do not let my review stop you from reading it! Make it your choice.

Wonderful book

A very relatable & moving read, recommended it to my best friend right after I finished it in one sitting. The whole book is now dog eared with the pages that touched my soul.

Milk and honey is not what I expected.

I would have never purchased this book if I knew it was about rape! It romanticized it vividly! Reading through the first few pages my daughters came to sit with me and read along in my new "poetry" book. I threw it! I later on skimmed through the book and it doesn't get better. I will be burning it.

Aesthetically wonderful

Modern poetry for those who don’t read modern poetry. (And those who do!) this book lays the ground work for every book of its kind. Delightfully thoughtful.

This book is for someone who has been in a toxic relationship or has lived in a toxic household, I hope they read this book & realize their worth, you are much more then someone who keeps hurting you.

Such a powerful read

I absolutely loved this book. Rupi's poetry speaks to the soul and I think everyone can find something to connect to within her writing.

To those who kept saying its just a bunch of her thoughts, did you read the first page where she explains the book? To those trying to decide if they should get this book, it's not for everyone but it has some good words for thought. I personally found it worth it

Worth reading!!!

Very cute book about the difficulties of being a women. I found a lot of inspiration while reading this. Know I understand why this book was so hyped up. Definitely worth a quick read!!

Not as good as people made it out to be.

It seemed more like a journal with random scribbled thoughts. Disappointed.

I liked her second book more than this one because it didn't leave me thinking after reading this book. Some pages were just sayings that are spaced out like this but i recommend reading the sun and her flowers
