This is a fun and imaginative story

This is a fun and imaginative story. Millie is a smart, independent and quirky protagonist. The book is a quick and engrossing read for school-age children, and its wit will resonate with parents as well.

Loved it!

This is a really great book that I just finished reading. I am a school librarian and I like to read new fiction to be able to make thoughtful recommendations to our kids (and because I love to read). I hadn't ready anything by Henshon before, but she really has a great style that creates a wonderful narrative which entertains and at times made me laugh out loud. The book is the story of a richly created character, Mildred, who won't clean her room. Mildred goes on to have some fun adventures as she becomes an entrepreneur (don't want to give too much away, however!). Henshon writes in the first person, and Mildred is an easy character for kids to relate to - confident but shy, smart but measured, and adult-like but still very much a great kid. I would highly recommend this book as a fun and incredibly enjoyable read for girls or boys, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade.

A lot of fun!

I just finished reading this book with my daughter, and I have to say it is truly an exceptionally enjoyable book. The author presents a very unique portrait of Millie, a pre-teenage girl who refuses to clean her room, and instead turns it into a profitable business. The writing is quick, creative, funny, ironic, and I believe presents a very powerful image for its readers. Millie is an empowered girl, and the book avoids many of the dated stereotypes of how girls her age may (but in real life do not!) act. I would highly recommend this book for girls, boys, and even parents.
