Mild PTSD

I never left the war. We called it the Sand Box, or just "The Box," the memories of it are still at the front of my mind even all these years later. I don't think I am the only one who feels this way.

Roughly 22 veterans kill themselves every day. I am no psychologist but having been there and gone through war I have a little better understanding of it than most.
So, I am trying to walk the reader through what it's like to have memories from nearly two decades ago at the front of your thoughts constantly. A smell takes us back there. A sound takes us back there. A box on the side of the road takes us back there, because in some way we never left.
My intent here is to hopefully prevent at least one suicide, be it a friend or total stranger. I also want to spread a bit of awareness, because people seem to know the term PTSD but have no idea what it actually means or what it is like.

For over 20 years the US was at war. The Global War on Terrorism, the GWOT. Maybe you like to read about that kind of thing. Maybe you have even been there too. By now everyone seems to have a dad, uncle, brother, son or yes even a mother, aunt, sister or daughter that has been to war. Or at the very least know someone who has. Pop culture has even brought the term Post Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD to the top of our vocabulary. But so few actually understand what that is.

Maybe you are that person who has those issues and wants to see that others went through it too.
