Mike Barnes is considered a "character" in his hometown, a small, ever growing city, where he is often seen collecting cans and bottles for his pocket money. That is, when he isn't working out of the city's day labor place, or just wandering the streets with a drink glow on and singing songs to himself. For the last five years or so, Barnes has lived - for the most part - beneath a small old stone bridge - Mikey's bridge, the locals call it - comfortable in what he considers a place fit for the solitary writer, boozer and thinker that he is. When he tires of the outdoor, solitary life now and then, Barnes spends time with an old girlfriend of his that takes him in for short periods of time, before they tire of each other's company again. Barnes, who had traveled quite a bit in his younger years, feels that he is settled here in this place that he has always returned to - home. Yet who knows what tomorrow will bring?
