It grows on you (and your child)

We checked out this book from the library while on vacation and our 2 year old son still recites the recurring theme, "...but not for long" which just makes me laugh (you'll get it if you buy the book). It's a cute story, not really deep, and not impressive art, but it does grow on you after you've read it the thousandth time.

Maxwell was a busy little rascal who always had to think "big" in order to save the day!

Maxwell had a big imagination and sometimes thought he was a superhero, but his father had other ideas. Max was just a bit busy is all and didn't mean any harm. When he balanced on top of the monkey bars at school, he got yelled at. Daddy was a yeller for sure. "Max sat. But not for long." Off he ran again, only this time he scrambled up onto the top of a stack of rocks. "MAXWELL!" Of course he sat down again, but it wasn't long before Max the superhero was racing like crazy on his bicycle. "MAXWELL!" "You're not Evel Knievel! So put your feet on the pedals before you lose control and crash into a tree." He wasn't any of those things his daddy talked about, but Max knew he certainly was "MIGHTY MAX!" He was just like Superman and could fly. In every situation he found himself he could always turn into a superhero, one that made his daddy yell at him. It's not easy being a kid with a big imagination, but in order to save the day he always had to think big! This is a very appealing story, one with which many parents can relate to. The simple crayon drawings, meshed with a bit of collage here and there, give it a nice childlike quality. Busy Maxwell and his antics, even though they might remind a parent of difficult times, are very amusing and charming. Do you have a little rascal in your house? Is his name MAXWELL?
