Book Overview

Rising up from the unstoppable Sea of Mist -- a magical void carrying armies of bloodthirsty undead to every land it touches -- a champion fights his way toward destiny. Trained since infancy in the arts of war, magic, and the secret sects of the rouge, Praz is unwilling to accept a single skill in the magical towers of The Order. Long denied the truth about his unknown past, he seethes with anger, rejecting convention as he leans toward darkness. But the foul slaying of his life-long mentor and the abduction of his only love have drawn Praz out beyond the citadel's walls for the first time in his life to undertake an epic rescue. Traveling through a world distorted by the Sea of Mist and hounded by a mysterious clark lord, Praz slowly begins to unravel his past. Along the way he's joined by warriors from multiple dimensions, battles demonic brothers, and confronts the most terrible foes of all: two lowly servants who've somehow stumbled upon the power of gods.

Good

I read the reviews before I started reading this book. Some say they didn't like to see some of the characters die at the end of the book. I would like to point out that this book seems to focus on the life of a man called Praz. So the real question here is the developement of this character, and the death of the other characters didn't bother me at all. In fact it surprised me in a positive way. I have read so many titles where almost all of the heroes and their companions survive at the end. This was like a breeze of fresh air. I read this title in one session and recommend it to everyone. Even to those who have never heard of the world of Might & Magic.

Couldn't put it down.

Being a fan of the Might and Magic gaming genere, I had to buy this book as soon as I saw it at the book store. I brought it to work with me, and by the end of my shift, I had finished the book. (Yeah, Not good to be reading on the job, but I just couldn't help it :)). Since this is the first book of the series, it is hard to judge the plotlines and ideas of the book, since there is quite a bit hanging for a second book. However I found the plotlines and ideas interesting, and different from other fantasy books (eg, Robert Jordan, David Eddings, Terry Brooks, J.R.R. Tolkien), while a lot of racial similarities exist, characters are developed differently, and there are a lot of hidden aspects to characters that get brought forward as the plot lines further themselves. The only complaint I had with this book is the development of some characters that play a minor role, and while reading the book you come to see them in a larger role, only to see them removed. That was a bit confusing. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed the book :)
