Great book for beginners

I teach database management using Access (not an Access training course), and this book enables introductory students to complete exercises without supervision and learn the basics and beyond. The Catapault books are some of the very best I've found for rank beginners to use on their own. Great exercise CD included with explicit instructions and modular lessons that go by quickly. Beginning students really like this book.

Excellent Book for the end user

You will learn how to be an Access user with this book. The book also makes a good reference. Contains a good database to work with. After mastering this book and you want to take it to the next level, programming, you will have to go on to more advanced books to learn SQL an Access VBA which are topics that are not mentioned at all in this book. This book is definitely a first step in the process of learning more advanced subjects.

Great Job!

I'm disappointed that many people have put down this book because it doesn't teach how to build a database. If you look through the contents, it obviously focuses on using preconstructed databases, not building them. With that in mind, I had never used Access before, bought this book, used it from cover to cover, and based on what I learned got a job that doubled my secretarial salary. I do hope, however, that the authors of this book create an advanced version, because it is only beginner to somewhat intermediate level, but I just loved the fact that the authors did not assume any knowledge on the users' part and still managed to keep me from feeling like I was using one of those awful dummies books.

Gets an absolute beginner up and running.

This book is aimed at those who are completely new to Access. It will systematically, for the most part, allow a beginner to become familiar with Tables, Forms, Queries,etc... Good examples, CD contains video examples as well. If your new to Access and want to be held by the hand then buy this book.
