3rd EDITION now available! Second edition made the book's formatting more like the other two. Here in third edition, because of the kindness of the Kalamazoo Museum staff, I was able to add more photos and types, with a much better summary section. Michigan had been the first, and as such, the roughest, but now has the benefit of the other three that I've worked on. This was chosen to publish first because of its proximity to the source of copper mining - - Lake Superior has the largest amount of pure copper known in the world. The series is based on the Copper Artifact Master Database (CAMD), that I've been compiling of artifacts found in museums and collectors' cases for over a decade, continuing the work I began when I was curator at the Oconto Copper Burial Museum. Here you'll find what you won't find anywhere else -- a compilation of pre-contact copper artifacts found at a single location in a variety of collections, both private and public, as well as those found in books, with archaeologist voices giving these artifacts more context.
