Would-be ghosts. UFO voyagers. A chicken that pecks out "Moonlight Sonata" on the piano -- blindfolded! They're the kind of stories that keep the National Mirror in the nation's shopping carts. And they're the kind of stories that make the tabloid's reporters think they've heard and seen it all. But that's before they meet Michael. He may be a grubby party animal who knows his way around a dance floor, but Michael is very much an angel. And with John Travolta in the title role, Michael is very much a divine romantic comedy, directed by Nora Ephron (Sleepless in Seattle). William Hurt, Andie MacDowell and Robert Pastorelli are writers sent by boss Bob Hoskins to get an exclusive on the heavenly visitor. The journalists want a page-one scoop. But their subject has a far more joyous and life-affirming plan in mind.

Frank Quinlan (William Hurt) is a writer for a great American institution, a tabloid. His assignment was to retrieve an angel. He is burdened with a so-called angel expert (Andie MacDowell) for his assistance. They also carry the editor’s favorite dog, Sparky.
Because the angel does not like to fly, they must return by road. Their road trip is more of a Joseph Campbell’s “Hero’s Journey”. Michael experiences the world and everything it has to offer, while the retrievers explain, contemplate, and hopefully heal from the past.
Next up should be “City of Angels” (1998) with Nicolas Cage
