Metal and metalheads in Madagascar

In Madagascar, at first, young people considered rock more as a dance. In the 1980s, the formation of the group Doc Holiday, with their lyrics composed in Malagasy, brought a new conception and understanding of rock. From then on, most groups used mainly Malagasy and/or English in their compositions. Towards the end of the 2000's, beginning of 2010, the rock and metal audience has further expanded thanks to the presence of young women at concerts. Many are the moments of gathering or sharing like concerts. They even use new technologies to increase their network of knowledge, as well as to deepen their personal culture on the history of rock and metal. Young Malagasy people have adapted metal to their way of thinking, i.e. Western metal is not reproduced in its entirety. It is a music that has evolved with the technological progress, and the Malagasy use it to share their daily life, as well as the problems that occur in their life, or that they see in the society.
