Merry heard the mumbling before she looked up to see the neighbor boys walking by on their way to town. Dread flooded her as she tried not to look at them. Merry had already watered her plants so she spun on her heel in the attempt to walk to the backyard but she stopped when she heard their singsong chant they always half sung as they walked by.
"Merry, Merry, quite contrary. How does your garden grow? Silver bells and Cockle shells and one measly petunia " They howled in laughter at the humiliating chant, but try as she might she couldn't make her feet move to leave the scene.
