A Wall Street Journal 20 Best Children's Books of the Past 20 Years Selection "Youngsters are sure to delight in the exploits of this butter-loving pig, savoring the 'wonky in the extreme' text and energetic, innocent art." --School Library Journal Some may find it wonky to take a pig to the drive-in. But not the Watsons, who think the movie's title, When Pigs Fly, is inspirational. And not their beloved Mercy, who is inspired by the scent of real butter from the theater's Bottomless Buckets of popcorn. As they pull up in their convertible, Mercy lifts up her snout and becomes a pig on a mission, leading a delirious chase that's trailed by hapless rescuers reunited from Mercy's earlier adventures.
I received this as a gift from my parents. I love Kate DiCamillo. My students love her work as well. I have an elementary class that wasn't too interested in reading. I began with Winn-Dixie and The Tales of Desperaux. Now when one of her books shows up in our library, it is difficult to check one out due to the students taking it out and reading them. I like this book especially because it use one of my favorite words "Wonky".
My daughter loves these very cute books.

Once I start a series and love the first two books ---- well, you just keep going. I'm so glad the quality of Kate's Mercy Watson's stories have been consistent. I do like some better than others --- but the fact is, I like them all. All the characters do appear in this book ---- amazing how clever she is to think of a way to bring them all in ---------oh, and introduce new characters as well. It surprised me, we had let the books lie for a while ---- after reading every night for months --- and my daughter had forgotten our little cowboy friend. :) What a hoot.
Can't Stop Reading!

I cannot say enough about this series! My daughter could not put the books down. This last installment will not disappoint if you have been following Mercy all along. The story is cute, funny, and interesting for young readers. We especially like that Kate DiCamillio uses words that challenge the young reader along with the easy reading text. The pictures are fabulous! This set is worth having in your home library!
