"Mend" tells the story of Valara, a girl born as a Lumenari with an intensely bright and wild light within her. This light connects to the emotions of people around her, making her different, In her world, being different is dangerous because people fear what they cannot control. Valara spends a lot of her life trying to be small, obedient, and quiet, even though her light is not meant to be hidden. Valara has a strong connection with her brother, Caelen. He is the only one who never asked her to change. After a tragedy separates them, Valara ends up with the High Guardians, who believe that power should be controlled and not just felt. As Valara's magic changes and grows, so do her feelings of guilt and grief. She learns about what it takes to truly heal. "Mend" is about breaking apart and becoming whole again. It explores themes of loss, love, and carrying the weight of losing someone you can't save.
