Bernard was born and bred in Upper Holloway / Hornsey Rise, London N.19.

The area in which Matt Monroe had been 'discovered', singing in "The Favourite" Pub N.19 (situated just before the Rise, (hill) to Crouch End / Hornsey N.8, where Colin Chapman started building Lotus Cars, alongside Hornsey BR Railway Station, utilising the railway sidings to build the cars); close by to Rod Stewart, (Highgate N.6) where an old school friend of Bernie's, Colin Webster, (Hornsey Rise, N19) had rescued Rod, from a dance hall brawl, in the early 1960's (Finchley N.3).

The same area where Bob Hoskins, (Stroud Green N.4) later dated Bernie's first girl friend, Gina Dalmasio, (Archway) who with Bernie, had attended the same school as Eddy Grant (Tufnell Park, NW5)... and the daughter of George Francis, (Kentish Town NW5) with whom Bernie had sparred, long before Frank Bruno
