Memories of Latouche: A 94-year-old woman recalls her childhood at Latouche Island, Alaska

Decema Kimball Andresen was born at Resurrection, (now Seward) Alaska June 25, 1906. In 1907, the family moved to Latouche Island. In 1915, when Decema was 9 years old, they relocated the family business to Ship Creek (now Anchorage). Memories of Latouche is how Decema remembers her childhood on Latouche Island in Prince William Sound. When the family moved to Anchorage, they established Kimball's Store on Lot 1, Block 51 of the original townsite. Kimball's Store has been in the family since 1898 when Mrs. Andresen's father began doing business from a sailboat, then to Resurrection, Latouche, and finally, Anchorage. Mrs. Andresen is the store's present proprietor. Kimball's Store is located at 500 west 5th Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska 99501. (907) 272-5333 Kimball's--Doing business in Alaska 1898--2000.
