Life in a simpler time. One man's legacy for his family

Bruce Neighbor was my father. He passed away just after completing this book, although he was writing it for as long as I can remember. He wanted to record his life, growing up during the depression in the mountains of Jasper National Park, as a legacy for his children and grandchildren. As a child I did not appreciate the content of the stories (the book is written in story telling fashion) because the life it portrayed was so foreign to a child brought up in a town in the 50s and 60s. As an adult I marvel at the spirit of these people, who were my family and see that the experiences my Dad had as a child and young man made him the unique man he became. The book describes a simpler but spirited time when people lived by their wits and their good word. This is well worth reading and sharing with your kids as it reveals values and attitudes seldom seen in our more complex and demanding era.
