The One To Have

Not as detailed as McCullough - obviously, it doesn't cover Truman's later years and death - but if I had to have only one Truman work on my shelf it would be this two-volume set. Harry writes as plainly as he speaks; but none of his saltier language appears between these covers.
Amazing

This memoir, written by Truman because he was badly in need of money, is nothing short of a masterpiece. Truman starts with the days leading up to FDR's death, and makes a special note of how the president looked very ill. Truman spend two volumes going over his critical eight years in office, a time which included Korea, Communism, the fall of China, the beginnings of Joseph McCarthy, as well as Truman's amazing 1948 victory over New York governor Thomas Dewey. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the presidency. It is well written, and informative.
