an orphan boys story

a true autobiography written by the author when far away from his childhood days yet he tells the story as if he was the age of his journey experiences. Hugo was evacuated to USA in 1940 - coming from tthe Actors'Orphanage in England he had to be sposored by British actors then resident in America. Hugo's sponsors were Gertrude Lawrence and Paul Robeson. He was also taken for summer holidays by other kind American families. He enjoyed being in the Boy Scouts of America. This is a story of interesting events of growing-up - including being caned when at the orphanage in England.(Noel Coward was the President of the Actors'Orphanage at that time. In America Hugo and his school mates were housed at the Edwin Gould Foundation in NY City and he attended Columbus High School in the Bronx. A real good read.

Memoirs of an Orphan Boy

This is a brilliant book. The author relates an entertaining and heart-rending historic account of his unusual childhood experiences in an actor's orphanage during the second world war period. It will make you both laugh and cry.
