Memoirs of a Gay Boy is the story of Jeff, a gay boy who was born in a small town of the American Midwest. The troubles through which he goes during youth and adolescence shape the rest of his life. Among several other episodes of emotional violence on his eighteenth birthday his only present is a hanging noose. It's no surprise, then, that when he is diagnosed with stage IV cancer Jeff feels it as a liberating experience rather than as a traumatic event. He is afraid of dying alone. Not of death in itself.
