When a nation is at war, and sends its military might overseas to do the actual fighting, the home front is affected in many ways. Families constantly worry about their sons and daughters in the military. Shortages of all kinds of food stuffs and other essentials, necessary for day to day living, are experienced and improvisations are made when possible, or you did without. There was even the possibility of real fighting reaching our shores.But did you ever won der if war affected young children, pre-teens and teenagers? As a child, I grew up during World War II, and I can assure you the war affected me, my buddies, in fact everybody you knew or came in contact with.After all, whether us kids liked it or not, we heard about the war from many sources. Parents talked about it, so did friends and neighbors. Newspapers headlined it, radios broadcast it, and theaters showed and told about it in movies and newsreels. We were involuntary captive audiences!So perhaps this little book might just give its readers some insights about those children and how they incorporated the knowledge of war into their young lives.
