Some are from Africa; some are from the Diaspora ( The U.S. and the Caribbean). All have gone on to join the ancestors. This is an accessible book that does not demand too much of the reader's time. Each biography bears a picture of the honored ancestor and tells the high points of his or her story in only five (letter size) pages. Five pages and you get to meet the shrewd African king recently dubbed, "the richest person in human history". Five pages and you get to meet the powerful Kushite queen mentioned in the Bible. Five pages and you get to meet the prolific inventor of the the third rail, the trolley, and 40 other devices. Five pages and - well, you get the point, they're inspiring! Lately, we often hear the cliche from a Black person on the defensive: "Oh, we weren't just slaves, you know. We come from kings and queens". Sure, but can you name even three?
