Lions and tigers and bears, oh my--and 97 other amazing animals, all pictured in a fantastic "photo safari." Children will delight in meeting a monkey who wraps its tail around a tree branch when it sleeps, learning why sharks can't ever stop swimming, and seeing bushy tailed foxes go on a hunt; playful dolphins surf the waves; elegant racehorses prance; and tropical-toned parrots show off their colors. There are even housepets like kittens and guinea pigs, too!
My son is autistic and, as a result, is limited in the book types that interest him. This book, however, is by far the number one book on his very short list. He drags it everywhere he goes, and abuses it in ways that books were never intended to be, but its held up well considering. More importantly, it interests him enough to do so, and for me - that's more than enough! The photos are first class, clear and colorful. Its a wonderful feeling to see him focusing closely on them, studying the details. He's finally at that stage where he will bring the book to me or mom, turn to a particular photo and state what animal it is, occasionally following that unsolicited information up with what sound the animal makes. For any parent, this is great fun, but for me, this is a wish coming true. After waiting nearly 5 years just to hear him say Daddy (on request), to now hear him offering up unsolicited exchanges is a thrill that is difficult to define. This book made part of that journey easier and more fun, for both of us.So, now that he's loved his first copy to pieces (read: destroyed), I'm going to order him another!

After searching for a long time for a book which included REAL photographs of all kinds of animals for my two year old twins and four year old, this one fits the bill perfectly! We LOVE this book!! My kids love the vivid photography and close-up shots of all kinds of animals. The author has also added a few sentences to each photograph which gives just enough information to peak my four year olds' curiosity to ask more questions about the animal. It is a great springboard for further investigation of many animals. My twins were excited to find pictures of squirrels, birds, chipmunks and even worms in the book which they had just encountered in our backyard. Their vocabulary has exploded as we page through the book; all three of my kids can identify all kinds of animals because of this publication. A great little book to introduce toddlers and preschoolers to the wonders of the animal world. And, what a bargain! I plan on buying several for gifts.
