Medicines Wastage and its Contributing Factors in Health Facilities

Many countries in both the developed and developing world are affected by medicine wastage which poses a significant health problem and endangers human life and health, results in the non-optimal utilization of resources and causes considerable loss of money. In Ethiopia, although there are reports that reveal the presence of wasted medicines in the country, there is lack of objective evidence on the extent and type of medicines waste as well as its contributing factors. In this book we report on the extent of medicines wastage; frequently wasted medicines and its underlying causes. This helps policy makers to make informed decisions so as to reduce wastage of medicines and to promote appropriate utilization of finite resources.
