The plant of turmeric is herbaceous, perennial which is 60-90cm in height. It has short stem and leaves are oblong, up to one meter long. It is a sterile plant and does not produce any seeds. The underground rhizomes or root of the plant are used for the medicinal and food preparations. Flowers of turmeric appear on a spike like the stalk. Its flowers are yellow white in colour.
