The health fields that receive preregistration training at universities, also known as colleges of advanced education, polytechnics, or institutes of technology in the past, will be the focus of this chapter. Chiropractic, naturopathy, hypnotherapy, aromatherapy, and other similar fields offer health care but typically do not provide formal education. Even though these "alternative" treatments are sometimes recommended to patients by doctors and nurses, little is known about their training curricula or assessment strategies. However, it appears likely that at least some of the information in this chapter applies to them as well.
