The At A Glance series sets out to summarise the essential information about a particular subject for the student requiring a quick introduction or a guide to revision. This is achieved by taking each part of the subject in turn and condensing it into a two-page spread with a schematic diagram on the left and a concise explanation on the right, which repeats some of what is shown in the drawings and adds further basic information. This book presents a broad look at pharmacology with the aid of a series of thoughtfully constructed sketches to show the mechanisms involved in pharmacological processes. It covers basic principles of drug action; drug receptor interactions; drug absorption, distribution and excretion; drug metabolism; how drugs act on specific body systems; and how drugs are used in a variety of common complaints (including peptic ulcer, hypertension, diabetes and cancer). This third edition features two new sections on poisons and drug interactions, and inserts new material on the role of immunotherapy, nitric oxide, and a discussion of 'second messengers.'
I first used this book in my undergraduate nursing program. It was of great assistance in learning at that time, and I recently purchased this edition to be able to refresh my memory on the ways medications work that I don't commonly prescribe, now that I am a Nurse Practitioner. It is also a great resource to use when explaining pharmacology to co-workers and even patients.
A must have for medical student!

Every piece of information "Medical Pharmacology at a Glance" gives you is vital. It figures out the big problems most students face when studying pharmacology: Which of this huge amount of data is really important? Which concepts I must never forget?. The book is very concise, but believe it or not, at the same time is much more understandable than many other extense texts.Besides, diagrams definitely allow you to get a much more integrated view of every topic. What is more, this text is great for reviewing the subject, it's amazing how many essential drugs it covers.
Definitely the "Swan Lake" of medical textbooks

I was recommended this book by a former student of Dr. Neal's and after one perusal, I was hooked. It has since become my favorite medical textbook. It is so elegant and enjoyable to read that it is hardly like studying at all. The diagrams are particularly impressive, with each consolidating the equivalent of many wordy pages in the average pharmacology textbook. It is perfect when taking a medical pharmacology course, to be read "first and last" for each topic. If you're a visual learner, this one's for you.
Excellent text.

This is the best medical science text ever written. It is short, concise and diagrams allow a visual synthesis that facilitates learning. The only drawback is occasional British terminology (e.g. Adrenalin is called Epinephrine). It is best used while taking pharmacology so that side-effects can be updated for boards.
