This study analyses the role of mediation in resolving mining conflicts in Burkina Faso, against a backdrop of rapid expansion in the sector, characterised by recurring tensions between mining companies and local communities. It draws on the case of Bissa Gold, which operates in the municipalities of Sabc and Man , where these conflicts are particularly evident. The study highlights the limitations of recourse to the state justice system and emphasises the growing interest in alternative dispute resolution methods, particularly mediation. Based on a mixed-methods approach combining field observations and interviews with the various stakeholders, it demonstrates that mediation is not only a relevant alternative but also an effective tool for the prevention, management and sustainable resolution of mining conflicts.
