The aim of this study is to reveal the problems seen in media literacy course practices around the world. For this purpose, first of all, the effects of mass media, whose place in our lives are increasing day by day, especially on children and young people are discussed. The effects of mass media on children affect their psychological and physiological development. It is very important to raise conscious children in order to bring healthy individuals into society. At this point, an effective media education is a social necessity as it teaches children how to use mass media and gives them the ability to interpret what they see beyond what they see thanks to its critical perspective. An individual who goes through such an educational process will not remain indifferent to what is going on around him. The quality of the media literacy courses, which are so important for the society, is also developed should be. This three in habit.Media literacy courses applied in France, England, Canada, Austria, America and Turkey were examined. The most important shortcoming in media education in countries other than Canada is the lack of a formal curriculum for media education. As a result of the interviews with the teachers in the pilot school where the media literacy course is taught in Istanbul, the findings show that the media literacy courses in our country are taught with a protective approach and this understanding is far from bringing conscious individuals to the society. Deficiencies such as teachers' lack of adequate equipment, financial inadequacies, lack of political agendas, and the inability to analyze popular texts in lessons are seen as factors that prevent the success of media literacy courses.
