A Timely Message

The author draws on his many years of counseling experience to bring us this reminder of the importance of honoring our word. Christians, especially, should be men and women of integrity, both in the big and little things of life. The world would be a better place if more people heeded Tim Coody's timely message. Jennifer Flanders, author of Love Your Husband/ Love Yourself: Embracing God's Purpose for Passion in Marriage

A Classic Treatise On Covenant And Their Impact On Our Lives

This book is 'must read' for those of us who wish to understand more about their covenant marriage vows. After all, when we say our marriage vows, we are taking them before God and our spouse. Tim develops the subject of how society has taken our covenant marriage vows to a new LOW where they have no meaning or validity. Our words and the promises behind them have no value in today's society as seen in the divorce rate exceeding 50% among evangelical Christians. God is a covenant-keeping God. He expects the same of us. Tim shows how insidiously our vows and covenants are broken on a daily basis. Tim is a personal friend, and this subject is a passion with him. You will blessed by reading this book on covenant and what covenant and your marriage vows should mean in your own personal life.

Deeper and more challenging than I expected

When I purchased this book (I got the audio version), I expected it to focus specifically on marriage. It has some of that focus, but the real focus is our words/commitments that are often so meaningless, how our culture has taught us very little respect for promises/commitment, and how that lack of respect for truth/commitment has lead to addictions of all kinds (drugs, sex, food, computer, and the list goes on). The real problem, as this book points out, is the erosion of our spiritual commitment, though it is through no lack of caring and willingness on the part of our God. I really enjoyed the challenge this book posed, and I plan to listen to it more than once as it is too much to digest in one reading.

Robin Cook

This is a little book with a lot to say. There is some great insight that the author offers from years of counseling with people whose words meant nothing when they told themselves things, and even less when others heard them spoken. As is often the case, years of seeing the same thing over and over reveals a pattern that is seldom seen by those caught in the cycle. Then that pattern is applied to the problem we see in our society with words that mean very little when spoken at the alter. A great read for anyone who is approaching marriage, has had a spouse leave them, or is involved with an addict of any kind.

Meaningless Words and Broken Covenants

I rate this book high for content and message. It is also written very plainly and almost anyone can gain something useful from it. Probably a very hot topic for some people to confront because we as a society seem to have forgotten what it means to value our words.
