In the 1940s, America was still struggling to recover from The Great Depression. A wave of crime was sweeping across the nation. Fed by a glamorized depiction of crime, the public had come to accept that the only way to gain fame and fortune was by breaking the law.

MEAN STEET is the story of John Brennan Michaels - the son of a crime boss from Chicago. Unlike his father, Michaels chose to devote his life to fighting for law and order.

He joins the Milwaukee Police Department, but finds himself in a constant struggle - trying to make ends meet on a policeman's salary. He eventually becomes disillusioned with his job. Caving in to the crime and corruption that has taken over society, he decides to turn to breaking the law.

He teams up with a ruthless mob boss, and embarks on a journey of greed, corruption, and murder. But, he realizes that he has made the wrong choice.

MEAN STREET chronicles this story of a young man who comes to terms with the realization that good must triumph over evil.

In the end, we are all forced to make this choice in our lives.
