Mea Culpa: A true story of sexual abuse by a catholic priest

This short true story was written as part of my book of memoirs "A Dumbarton Childhood" however, I considered it too important to be included in the book and it deserved to be told as a separate story. My abuse was a single isolated traumatic incident in the life of a small innocent 12-year-old boy, nevertheless, it had a profound effect on my life. The feelings of guilt-ravaged and impacted on part of my psyche for many years. Some children were not so lucky and suffered prolonged sexual and mental abuse by paedophile priests who were never brought to justice and were protected with a veil of secrecy by The Vatican and hypocritical, institutional bishops.The Catholic Church was made fully aware of the multitude of accusations of child rape and chose to ignore, hide and deny that these rapes ever took place claiming that they must be in the imaginations of the child accusers and chose to protect their priests from being brought before the courts.Adults around the world continue, to this day, to come forward and share their stories, which although difficult to tell now receive recognition as being true.My story is just one of many.....
