Mbera is a poetry collection by Rethabile Masilo, a Mosotho poet who has lived in Paris, France, since 1987. Born in Lesotho in 1961, he left his country with his parents and siblings and went into exile in 1981. Before settling in France, he lived in the Republic of South Africa, Kenya and the United States of America. Masilo's work is rooted in his experiences of exile and the cultural heritage of Lesotho. The poetry in Mbera fluidly explores themes of displacement, identity and social justice. Masilo's previous books include Things That Are Silent (Pindrop, 2012), Waslap (Onslaught, 2015), Letter to Country (Canopic, 2016) and Qoaling (Onslaught, 2018). He has also edited two anthologies published by The Onslaught Press: For the Children of Gaza and To Kingdom Come (Voices Against Political Violence).
