In 1990, I had an adventure. These pages reflect the feelings and emotions I experienced while living and working in Mexico. After 12 years as a mid-level manager at Weight Watchers International, I took the assignment in Mexico City to help a franchise owner figure out why her territory (Mexico) was losing money. Originally, I went as a consultant. My Spanish was rusty, but within a short time, the staff trusted me enough to confide that the manager was embezzling. I hired an independent Mexican accounting firm to audit the books and discovered that the rumors were true.I ended up running the operation for a year until I could find a permanent replacement. During that year, I flew back to the United States once a month to check in on my elderly mom and decompress for a couple of weeks. I found that even though my Spanish got better with each passing month, I could not fluidly express my emotions and reactions. Because of this, I started writing my impressions. What follows are my collected recollections and some letters that I had sent to my mom.Linda P. Charman
