Enchanting Review: Mayhem In High Heels

Add in the return of Felix, who Maddie finds herself grudgingly working with as she investigates Gigi's murder and there's a chance there might not be a wedding at all if things go awry. I really enjoyed MAYHEM IN HIGH HEELS and honestly am sad it's the final book in the series. While Maddie decides to investigate Gigi's murder, tabloid reporter Felix comes back into her life, managing to create more tension between Maddie and Ramirez at an already stressful time, especially since Ramirez isn't all that interested in helping out with the wedding prep. One of my favorite things about Maddie in this book was her sudden attack of hiccups anytime anything related came up, which led to some real funny moments. I loved how Maddie struggled to juggle her investigating with wedding planning and the mystery of Gigi's murder was well laid out, never once hinting on the true killer or possible motive until it all clicks into place late in the book. One of the best scenes in the book is Maddie's bachelorette party, which truly had me laughing at where her best friend Dana decided to hold it and what the group activity was! What happens to Mrs. Rosenblatt is truly hilarious. Fans will no doubt enjoy the last in this fun series but be sad to see it end. Maddie is back!

Maddie's friends, Dana and Marco, take over all wedding preparations. But with Jack handling the murder case, Maddie knows that she would be lucky if he even remembered to show up for their wedding. The only thing to do is solve the case before their wedding day! Time for Maddie, Dana, and Marco to play Charlie's Angels again. ***** I have grown to love the Maddie Springer mystery series. As with all the mysteries before, this one is filled with lots of humor while still keeping the reader's attention on solving the case. I found myself laughing aloud at the most unexpected times. hilarious "High Heels" hi-jinx

Los Angeles Homicide Detective Jack Ramirez and shoe designer Maddie Springer were in Paris causing the usual MAYHEM IN HIGH HEELS (see ALIBI IN HIGH HEELS) when he proposed and she accepted. Maddie expected nuptial problems from her mom, but did not anticipate wanting to name a hemorrhoid after her. Mom wants to invite half the planet including people neither Maddie nor mom have spoken with in the last decade or so. To keep the ceremony under control and not need the Coliseum, Maddie hires wedding planner Gigi Van Doren to take care of the gala, but especially to run interference with her mom. Maddie and Jack arrive to test taste their wedding cake in Gigi's Beverly Hills studio; only instead of a sweet and a planner they find a corpse. Someone stabbed Gigi in the back leaving her face buried in the butter cream frosting. Maddie's friends Dana and Marco replace Gigi as the planners while Jack leads the official investigation into the murder. Maddie knows when he works a case he has tunnel vision so to insure he makes it to the ceremony, if for no other reason than not having to explain otherwise to the mother of the bride from hell, she decides to solve the case assisted by her new wedding planners. The fifth "High Heels' amateur sleuth tale ( see ALIBI IN HIGH HEELS , KILLER IN HIGH HEELS, SPYING IN HIGH HEELS and UNDERCOVER IN HIGH HEELS) is the usual madcap amusing investigation.. As always Maddie's chick lit big mouth manages to get her into trouble with the cops. However, much of the amusing asides come from mom who wants her daughter's nuptial to be the wedding of the century rivaling last century's biggest one, Luke and Laura. Although the usual dueling homicide investigations (amateur and professional) are a bit thin, fans of the series will enjoy the latest hilarious "High Heels" hi-jinx. Harriet Klausner

Each story in this series is exceptional and adds edgy style to today's romance mystery genre. This madcap tale of an offed wedding planner with romance and suspense contains more laugh-out-loud antics than a Peter Sellers, Pink Panther movie!
