Two years ago, after a disastrous attempt at a middle school romance, Andrew and Eve decided they worked best as friends. But Andrew didn't realize he'd be stuck in the friendzone for the rest of time. In high school, Eve is a two-sport star athlete on cheer and track and is one of the most popular girls in school. Meanwhile, Andrew's commitment to marching band, an increasing interest in poetry, and the hours spent jamming with friends in his garage somehow have him branded as a band geek and a total loser. He watches from the sidelines (literally) as Eve collects trophies and hearts. But he's never gotten over her--his best friend forever, his one true love.

Eve has always hated change. She's learned to accept it, but the hardest change to adjust to over the past two years has been the change between her and Andrew. With his garage band taking up every waking minute, Andrew never has time for her anymore. She isn't musical or artsy enough to hang with his friends. She asks herself "what if" so often--while listening to his band practice from her room, watching Andrew during halftime shows, at dances where they're both with other people. She misses him, but things (and people) change. She's determined to live her best life and not dwell on her old BFF--much. Plus, she hasn't really lost him--he's still right across the street.

But when Andrew's band goes viral and bigger life changes start looming, Andrew and Eve have to decide: Should they try just one more time to see if their love is meant to last?
