Millionaire, musician, master salesman; con-man, drug dealer, convict; entrepreneur, benefactor, wise and revered meditation teacher -- Alan Gompers has led an amazing life. His life-long search for... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Alan Gompers' Maximum Security: The true meaning of Freedom. As the title suggests, it is a sort of spiritual autobiography/memoir. But unlike other abstruse or contrived books of this genre, Maximum Security is a refreshingly simple and delightful read. Though Mr. Gompers' background isn't in writing literature, his open-hearted and generous approach result in a natural and inviting narrative. The descriptions are so colorful and the style so accessible, you feel as though you are with him through his entire journey. And this is no small feat when you consider all of the places he has been. At times I would be so engrossed I would forget I wasn't reading a novel and there would be a incredible scene where I would think: "wait a second! that would never happen" and then I would remember that it actually DID happen and that this is NOT a work of fiction, but rather the simple memoir of a simple man in his very indirect, yet remarkable journey towards the true realization of Contentment.

I heard Al speak in NYC and had to buy the book. I read it in an airport and was so absorbed that I nearly missed my flight. This is a book that will challange the way you react to life's curveballs. No longer blaming others for your problems and fears, but taking responibility for your actions. If not for seconds and inches (close calls)I could have been sitting in that cell with Al. Thank you Alan for writing this book and sharing your solutions with all of us.

This is an icredible story of falling from grace and redemtion. It should be a movie because the chracters are so real and colorful. Obviously what makes Gompers story so amazing is that it is all true. Great book!
A universal, heart-opening message

I couldn't put this book down. It spoke directly to me - I've never been imprisoned, but easily recognized my baser tendencies in the situations he describes. Inspired by Alan's humility, honesty, courage, and commitment to his spiritual path, I've connected with fresh energy to continue and deepen my own process of transformation.
Maximum Impact--

A friend recommended this book to me and at first blush, I thought I would really hate it. You know the situation, you read the first 20 pages so you can sound intelligent when being asked about it. And then you bury it next to the old baseball cards, your college thesis and a picture of your old sweetheart that you forgot to throw away. Well, it never made it to the closet. I couldn't put it down. Page after page, I felt I was living those experiences right along with Alan Gompers. He did a masterful job of weaving in his message and keeping me hooked all the way through to the end. Now, I'm the friend recommending the book to other people. Do yourself a favor and buy it. Especially if you're like me and thought you wouldn't enjoy it. It has a lesson for all of us.
