Payn Stakenly designed.

This film is based on a defunct old-time video game. As you know, turning a video game into a film is a doomed concept. There is very little, if any, flexibility, so it must follow a predetermined script. Appropriately named Max Payne, who, after an event, turned into a Maverick police officer. The event unfolds in small dribbles throughout the movie. In the process of hunting down the bad guy(s), Max picks up some new friends and is assisted by old friends who tell him to forget it. We get to see it all in the journey “Paynefully executed,”. Looks like evil beasties are also involved. So, sit back and watch the formula revenge of get-even plot unfold. Kibitzing is allowed. Luckily, I had not played the game, so I had no reason to barf. That is, until I saw the script. The visuals and CGI are excellent. They did make it a tad dark around the edges. They brought out the obligatory flashlights in some scenes when they could have just turned on the switch. The background noise did not drown out the dialogue. However, there were a few rambling scenes where closed captioning saved the day.
