Max and the Case of the Midnight Howl

By Daphne Anne Sotheby

When Leo Calder and Max - the Friendly K9 with instincts sharper than any grown-up realizes - stumble into the forest rescue of a terrified boy named Tomas and his injured wolfdog, they uncover a secret that was never meant to reach the outside world.

Strange tracks. Whispered warnings. A creature haunting the ravine. And men who move through the trees with equipment built for capture, not rescue. As Leo, Max, and their friends try to protect Tomas and Shadow, they discover the truth: a hidden program that trains kids and dogs as paired units... and destroys the ones who don't obey.
Max's instincts sharpen. Shadow's past resurfaces. Riven - the ghost dog of the woods - returns. And the creature everyone feared turns out to be a broken survivor who remembers more than anyone expected.

With the handlers closing in, the kids must navigate underground tunnels, collapsing walkways, and the rising waters of an abandoned reservoir. Max stands at the center of it all - brave, loyal, and fiercely protective - proving he's more than a pet. He's family. And when the final confrontation erupts, Leo learns that courage isn't about being fearless. It's about standing beside the ones who need you most. Perfect for readers who love adventure, mystery, loyal dogs, and found-family stories, this second installment raises the stakes and deepens the heart of the Max series.

Join Leo, Max, Tomas, Shadow, and Riven as they uncover the truth, protect each other, and take the first steps toward a battle that will shape the rest of the series. The forest is calling - and Max is ready
