Lilly is a college student who is finally ready to adopt a dog. After immediately falling in love with a tiny Maltese puppy, she brings him home and names him Max. It is not long before the two create a special bond and become inseparable.

When Lilly eventually marries, she and her husband, Tom, decide to adopt a playmate for Max. While visiting a shelter, they meet an adorable Corgi who quickly captures a place in their hearts. After a brief adjustment period, Max and Cocoa develop a brotherly bond and happily move into a new house with their human parents.
