Book Overview

The icy winter of 1862 finds General Robert E. Lee
Battling against the Army of the Potomac...

The War Between the States has created a stage where true character will be tried and revealed. In this unfolding drama of conflict, the Hastings family contends with life and death, loyalty and disloyalty, and hope for a future tinged with the knowledge nothing will never be the same. Each decision will bring honor or dishonor, trust or distrust, truth or deception.

Risking her life, Salina Hastings kept her word of honor to her father and to a struggling Confederacy by delivering secret documents to a Rebel contact in San Francisco. Following the darkness of Alcatraz and a treacherous journey back to her beloved Virginia, Salina faces the threat of execution as a Confederate spy for her refusal to abandon the deep-seated loyalty to all she holds dear.

Reunited, Salina and Jeremy's relationship is sorely tried by questionable allegiances, doubt, miscommunication, and deliberate lies as they weather the ongoing war. Their trust in God and in one another is the only way they can withstand the turmoil which besets them.

Against the turbulence of crucial battles and raids in America's Civil War, MATTER OF TRUST will draw readers closer to the members of the Hastings family as their story continues.

Incredible!!

The books in this series are absolutely incredible. The characters are very well developed, they are historically rich, and they are easy and fun to read. I read them until the covers were falling apart and I had parts of them memorized. I highly recommend them to anyone - even those who don't usually enjoy reading.

I could see what I was reading

I loved this story, especially because it was like I could see the things happening and where they happened. T. Elizabeth Renich wrote about places near where I live, and she did a good job in writing about them. Her research shows. I like the way her characters interact with real historical figures. She made the history a lot more enjoyable by doing that (I got an A on my book report because I actually learned as I read.) I never knew there was stuff that had to do with the war going on in California since it seemed to be mostly in Virginia. And I could relate to Salina, she seems like a real person and not just a made up one. I'm one of those people T. Elizabeth Renich mentioned in her Dedication, because after reading the first book, I wanted to know what happened next. Now I can hardly wait to find out what happens next in the third book!
