Great Read

This is an inspirational story that is extremely well written. It is a prime example of how God does for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Those who are especially drawn to the Blessed Mother will identify and relate to Matt's story. He dedicated his life to her once he found sobriety. Matt Talbot's life is a story of the power of prayer. His mother prayed for him fervently while he was in the midst of his alcoholic disease. One day he comes home directly from his place of work and tells his mother he is going to take "the pledge" - a sworn oath not to drink for a specified period of time in the company of a priest. (Matt's life preceded the program of Alcoholic's Anonymous) Matt was a daily drinker - a daily drunk. His mother had not seen him come home early or sober since he was in his teens. He struggled daily but by turning his will and life over to the care of God he never took a drink again. This is a story of a man who found long lasting sobriety in a life of dedication to God through His son Jesus Christ and the intercession of the Blessed Mother who once pawned his shoes in the middle of a harsh Irish winter for a drink. A beautiful story of the life of a venerable member of the Catholic Church.
