Most books erase us from the mental health conversation entirely. Or if mentioned treat us as if our experiences are the same as everyone else's. They are not. The emotional and mental wellness of black women is not addressed in its proper social and cultural context which is that of a colonized woman. The colonization of black people has impacted our mental health in a way that has been completely ignored. We have not begun to connect the dots that this is at the root of the mental illness and emotional dysfunction we see in our families and communities.
