Good Review, but Misleading Practice Tests

I purchased this book early so I would have plenty of time to study it before the AP U.S. History test. It covers most basic U.S. History information in an organized, numbered format that makes it easy to review - a lot easier than flipping through nine hundred pages of a history text book - but it is meant as a supplement to an AP or similarly in-depth history course only. I would not recommend this book for someone who is studying on their own for the test, unless he or she is willing to do a lot of extra research on subjects the book only touches on. In other words, this book is convenient as a giant "refresher course", but it should serve only as a companion to a text book or another significant resource. Although the study guide and the testing tips are useful, as well as the grade breakdowns in the beginning of the book that explain how you must perform on the multiple choice and essay sections to get your desired grade, the multiple choice questions of the practice tests are misleading. I performed moderately on two of them, but downright terribly on the third, which did little to make me feel confident about testing. However I scored a 5 on the actual test. Therefore, if you are considering this book, keep in mind that the real AP multiple choice test questions are a bit more general than the practice questions in this book; it might save you some unnecessary stress. Purchase this book for the study guide (I'm convinced the study guide helped me score higher on the test), but I suggest turning to another source for a better and more meaningful practice test.
