The antagonist is a mysterious man who has escaped from angry relatives in Europe and, via a circuitous and somewhat criminal route, ended up in Melbourne. Living under a fictional and apparently law-abiding identity but keeping a dark remaining a target for family revenge, he meets and becomes close to a woman who lives in his luxury apartment building - DI Linda Alexander. As the case progresses, Linda is faced with some tough decisions as her personal life threatens to intrude into her hitherto unblemished career.
