Thought-provoking and entertaining

Life, love, and passion are the constant that flows from one generation to the next. As World War II is almost over, Jenny Stephenson finds an antique mask that allows her a chance to look into the past where she sees a handsome person, who calls out to her. Not too long after Jenny wears the mask, she meets her stranger in the person of Theo O'Reilly, an individual suffering from battle fatigue. Jenny and Theo are the latest reincarnations of two Venetian lovers, doomed to an eternity of returning each generation in new bodies to try and find happiness through their love, an acomplishment they have yet to achieve. MASK OF THE NIGHT is a strange, but interesting tale that links romantic intrigue with reincarnation. Though all the characters are quite fascinating, it is the original Venetians, who start the endless cycle that will most intrigue readers. Their conflict between their love for each other and their roles in society (witch vs her Inquisitor) makes for a profound story. Mary Ryan scribes a magical novel that will please fans of romantic suspene and reincarnation novels. Harriet Klausner
