Mary Rose and the Little Red Rooster was written as a tribute to Dr. Mary Rogers Rose, who retired from the Harnett County Public Schools System as a K-5 curriculum director. Because of her love for teaching children and preparing teachers to meet the academic needs of all our children, she devoted her lifelong career to the field of education.
Prior to Mary's retirement, she often fondly spoke of and collected little red roosters. She talked about how, when she was a little girl, there was a little red rooster who would follow her wherever she went until one day the little red rooster mysteriously disappeared. Years later, as an adult, she encountered the same experience. She found another little red rooster scratching in her backyard every day. Just like the little red rooster she encountered as a little girl, the red rooster one day mysteriously disappeared.
Her dream was to write a children's book about a little red rooster. Unfortunately, she passed away before realizing that dream. Mary Rose and the Little Red Rooster is written in honor of Mary's dream. It is a beautiful dream that I am sure every child would enjoy reading. It would also make a perfect bedtime story.
