Once a successful advertising sales rep, Marvin Stewart is now a part-time handyman with a slight drinking problem. Tige Jackson is an impoverished 11-year-old living on the streets of Atlanta, reeling from a personal tragedy. A combination of compassion and necessity brings the two together.

After a rough start, a special bond begins to develop as they learn to accept each other's differences. While Marvin contemplates ways to give Tige a brighter future, an unexpected turn of events jeopardizes his plans before he can put them into action.

The first edition of Marvin & Tige was printed in 1977, then later published in several countries and languages. It earned the author the Coretta Scott King Book Award for Excellence in Creative Writing. In 1983, it became a movie starring John Cassavetes and Billy Dee Williams.

This updated version of the story has easier-to-read dialogue and contains an additional 10,000 words.
