Martin Parr: We Love Britain! Photographs

What does Hanover have to do with the United Kingdom and British Magnum photographer Martin Parr? Quite a lot, actually Firstly, Hanover is celebrating the 300th anniversary of the coronation of Hanoverian Prince-Elector George Louis as King George I of Great Britain and Ireland. Secondly, the Sprengel Museum Hanover felt that no one was better suited than Martin Parr when it came to taking a tongue-in-cheek look at local Anglo-German history. Parr set out at the museum's behest in search of things British in and around Hanover. He visited the Lady Di Club in Hameln; the "Britfest" in Paderborn; the reenactment group "King's German Legion" in Hanover; a local celebration in honor of the Queen's birthday; the world's largest marksmen's festival, held annually in hanover; and British garrisons that were preparing to pull out. Under the fraternal motto "We love Britain " the upshot of his photographic quest can be viewed at the Sprengel Museum beginning in October 2014 and in the accompanying catalog.
